From Sensitivity to Systemic Vision: HSPs in the Spiral Dynamics Framework

In this section of my book, I explore how highly sensitive people fit into the Spiral Dynamics model. I was fascinated to discover that most of the sensitives I know naturally gravitate toward the higher, more integrative stages of the spiral—and often find it difficult to resonate with the more power-driven strategies of earlier levels. This is part 1.

Spiral Dynamics is a developmental model of human values and consciousness, originally based on the work of psychologist Clare W. Graves. It describes an ever-evolving “spiral” of worldviews—often colour-coded—through which individuals, organisations and cultures move as they face new life conditions. Each level represents a coherent set of beliefs and coping strategies:

• Beige (SurvivalSense): Focus on basic physiological needs and instinctual survival.
